Portfolio update – December 2021

Dear fellow investors, friends, family and future self.

Welcome to my seventh portfolio update or the year 2021, I hope you enjoy them. I’ve decided to post updates at the end of the quarter, as things are not so interesting every single month. Now let’s get into things!

October was my last month in the old job, so I’ve decided to use all my remaining vacation days and have a holiday in Alicante, before starting the new job. As I told you in the previous update, we had a semi-failed attempt for a seaside vacation at the Baltic Sea in the middle of July (!!) and we had to try one more time.

This time we had luck: the weather was perfect, we could bath in the Mediterranean Sea in the middle of October, amazing! During this time, our friends in Berlin were preparing for winter and buying winter clothes.

End of October also marked the end of the buying process of the house, meaning that finally the bank had all the documents in order to release the loan and so we could make the payment. There were some tense days, but we managed to respect the deadline and transfer the money in the last day. From now on, I can add the house and loan in the records. It’s not a pretty image to open the banking app and see a six figure with the minus sign, but it’s also comfortable to have resolved the housing problem, given how crazy is the market in and around Berlin.

I’ve started the new job, all good so far. The company is a fintech scale-up and one of the big incentives for joining them was that they offer RSUs (reserved stock units) and I hope they will get listed on the stock market in 2-3 years.

That’s it from the personal side, let’s see how my investments performed:

My investment account was at 13186, 2734€ more than previous update, broken down in 1410€ cash invested and 1324€ gained due to assets appreciation. This quarter was quite a good one. I use Trade Republic as a broker and if you create an account using this link, we will both receive a bonus of 15 after your first trade.

I had experienced investing into P2P lending with Mintos, but at the moment I am withdrawing until further notice. At the moment I have 465 in the account. I have most of the money (460€) in recovery.

Finally, some numbers about our total net worth: it increased by about 60.000€ compared to last quarter (savings + investments). The increase can be fully attributed to the house appreciation. As I said, the housing market is very hot in this area and I can evaluate our house by comparing it with the other houses that go on sale in our residential complex. The distribution of the worth looks like this (I have finally added the new house):

As you can see, most of my net worth is tied now to real estate, a thing that I want to re-balance with more investments in other areas.
